Aaliyah Dana Haughton

 Aaliyah Dana Hathon (/a/'li/@/ ah-LEE(January 16 1979 to August 25 2001) is an American actor and singer. Her contributions to contemporary R&B hip-hop, R&B, and pop music have earned her the popular nicknames "Princess of R&B" or "Queen Urban Pop". Her birthplace was in Brooklyn and grew up in Detroit. At 10 years old Aaliyah became famous after she appeared alongside Gladys Knight on Star Search. Aaliyah was signed to Jive Records at the age of 12 and was signed by her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records at 12. Hankerson introduced her to R. Kelly who was her mentor and the lead producer and songwriter of her debut album Age Ain't Nothing More Than a Number. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified the album double platinum following the sale of three million copies in the United States. Aaliyah was signed to Atlantic Records after Kelly was accused of cheating on her. The album she released after her second, One in a Million was a huge success, selling three million copies in America , and more than 8000 copies across the globe. Aaliyah was the first actor to be featured in Romeo Must Die, her debut film. Aaliyah was a part of the soundtrack for Romeo Must Die, and led to the hit single "Try Again".
